FAQ

These questions are things you should consider when interviewing your DJ entertainment.

Do you use a written contract?
If you find a DJ who does not use a contract, you should keep searching.  A professional DJ (ie. one who does this as their sole source of income, to feed their family) will use a contract to secure your booking.  Your contract should outline services, setup needs, cancellation policies, etc.  If your DJ does not offer a contract, how can you guarantee they will show up for your event?

Are you insured?
Liability insurance should be required, and you should ask to see proof.  You may not require one if you are hosting a birthday party at your home, but most venues will not allow a DJ on to their property without at least a $1 Million Liability Policy.

What services do you provide?
Some DJs do nothing more than show up, play music, and maybe make a few announcements.  Other DJs offer more services and become involved with your planning process, including interactive games, a bigger sound or light show (appropriate for your event), advanced training and experience which will make a bigger impact on the success of your event.  The more your DJ offers, the more you should expect to pay.

When should we start planning?
As soon as you know the date and location for your party, you should hire your entertainment.  The better entertainers/DJs are often booked 6-12 months prior to a party.  Remember that there are key dates that are often difficult to book, unless you do so at least a year in advance.  These include May-August Wedding dates and December Company Parties.

Why is it important to meet your DJ?
You are placing the success of your event in the hands of your entertainer.  While you may have ideas you want to incorporate into your party, it is your DJ who is ultimately responsible for implementing those ideas and making them successful.  When you meet your DJ, make sure they put their name on the contract and guarantee they will be the host at your event, or ask for a money-back guarantee.

How much does a DJ cost?
Pricing for DJ services vary based on the amount of experience they have along with the services they offer.  A DJ with little experience may charge as low as $100, whereas a seasoned veteran who offers many more services and creative ideas can charge up to $5,000 (or more).  The DJ industry is just like any service or commodity...you do get what you pay for.
